The scope of restoration depends upon the need, and other circumstances, such as the status of the building, and the affordability of the work required.

Article 4 Restoration

The aim of these controls is to encourage good design, and quality restoration for a ‘like for like’ repair. Such repair work does not require planning permission. If you wish to undertake alterations you should check with the Council’s Development Control Section and inform your architect, solicitor, and builder that you live in a Conservation Area and that Article 4 is in place. If inappropriate alterations take place without planning permission, enforcement action may be taken.

Works to Listed Buildings would also need Listed Building consent for any alterations which may affect the character of the building.
